Books

Security Analysis by Benjamin Graham

Security Analysis is probably one of the most well known investing books and where I began my investing journey. To be honest it is not an easy book to read in fact my children all it “the brick” because of its size but I strongly recommend anyone serious about value investing.

If you are unaware legendary investor Warren Buffet was one of Benjamin Graham’s students. What this book does well is that it provides a framework for investors to follow dealing with both the pure numbers of investing and psychology of human behavior.

Common Stocks and Uncommon Profits by Phillip Fisher.

What I like about this book is that Philip has a very straight forward and honest approach to his writing.

While Benjamin Graham was the father of value investing Phillip Fisher was known as the “Father of Growth Stock Investing”. In summary Fisher believed the management of a company was one of the most important things when investing. What I found particularly useful and opened my eyes was Fisher’s 15 points that a company must pass in order to be considered when deciding to invest. I would recommend this book to investors new and old as Phillip is honest enough to discuss his errors along with his successes.

One Up On Wall Street: How To Use What You Already Know To Make Money In The Market – Peter Lynch

This book is probably my favourite because it is easy to read and most matches my investing style. I would suggest reading all of these three books to not only learn from the masters of investing but to understand which style of investing best suits your personality.
Peter Lynch in my opinion is very good at understanding the business of a company and future business trends. He believes it is more important to buy a quality business rather than looking for a company at a cheap j

IPO

What is an IPO?

“An initial public offering, or IPO, is the very first sale of stock issued by a company to the public. Prior to an IPO the company is considered private”

While I normally do not recommend investing in an IPO, no doubt some have been very successful for investors.

If you’re looking to invest in an IPO and do not want the hassle of brokers trying to sell you something or you just like to know about what new companies will be floated on the market, I suggest taking a look at ON MARKET you can find them here

I have used ON MARKET seamlessly for a couple of IPOs and I found them easier to use and I was allocated all the shares I asked for. If you sign up they will send you and email each time a new IPO comes along. I find these interesting to follow.
